Handmade Silk Skirt Close Up
This skirt was constructed for a charity auction.

The patterns you see are all tapestry or embroidery; there are no prints.

I refuse to use prints as they do not wear well and they lack the depth of tapesry and embroidery patterns.

The fabric I use for this skirt as well as much of my other handmade clothing is normally used for high end and commerical upholstery.

You may wonder why I don't simply use apparel fabrics or the less expensive home furnishings fabrics.

Through the years, I have found that high end and commercial upholstery fabrics grant me a unique privilege of having both the durability that I need for my lifestyle (including bicycling in all kinds of weather) as well as a very rich palette of colors and patterns which allows me the creativity that I desire in all of my projects.
